Derrek was sitting as close to a corner as he could get. It was his corner and he would make sure everybody knew it. He knew he was being paranoid, but nobody could be at his back if he was in a corner. Nobody could stab him then. And nobody could shove him into whatever danger was in front of him.
He believed this in more ways than one. Head bent and eyes watching all the guards, Derrek was the picture of obedient little 'student'. He liked playing with their heads. It was actually fun. He chuckled a bit and smoothed imaginary wrinkles from his clothes and rested his elbows on his knees.
What if...., he thought, What if I could gather a few... no. He almost dismissed the idea as crazy, but he knew from experience that no idea was too crazy to try. No idea was too much to handle.
He stood and stretched. Now was as good a time as ever to scope out his fellow 'students'. He looked around, whistling a little tune, hoping he wouldn't have to walk up to somebody. He hoped that they would come up to him.
